Against the backdrop of "dual carbon" targets, energy conservation and consumption reduction in water supply systems have become a key focus for property management and water utilities. Recently, an energy-saving renovation project for a secondary water supply pump room in a residential community in Tianxin District, Changsha City, implemented by Hunan Water Equipment Engineering Technical Services Co., Ltd., was successfully completed, delivering an impressive "green report card": after the renovation, the average daily electricity consumption decreased from 250.44 kWh to 77.89 kWh, and the energy consumption per ton of water decreased from 1.25 kWh/m³ to 0.23 kWh/m³, achieving a comprehensive energy saving rate of 81.6%. It is estimated that this will save nearly 47,300 yuan in electricity costs annually!
I.Project Background: The old pumping station is oversized and underutilized, resulting in serious energy waste.
Located in Tianxin District, Changsha City, this project serves 944 households relying on secondary pressurized water supply. Before the renovation, the basement level of the residential complex had two sets of frequency converter + water tank pressurization equipment:
Low zone: flow rate 26 m³/h, head 55 m, power 7.5 kW × 3 units (two in operation, one on standby), actual water supply pressure 0.55 MPa;
High zone: flow rate 39 m³/h, head 85 m, power 15 kW × 3 units (two in operation, one on standby), actual water supply pressure 0.89 MPa.
Before the renovation, the average daily electricity consumption was 250.44 kWh, the average daily pressurized water volume was 200.88 m³, and the electricity consumption per ton of water was as high as 1.25 kWh.
II.Renovation Measures: Technological Upgrades and Energy-Saving Transformation
To address the aforementioned pain points, the Hunan Water technical team tailored a highly efficient and energy-saving renovation solution.
By combining existing municipal conditions with the concept of resource sharing between high- and low-rise areas, and through scientific configuration and flexible operating modes, overall efficiency was improved.
While making reasonable use of existing pressure, the coordination between equipment was optimized to ensure effective coverage of water demand.
At the same time, the addition of some auxiliary facilities further improved the system's adaptability and operational economy, completely eliminating the situation of "overpowered systems."
III.Energy-saving effect: The design was fulfilled, and the actual operation exceeded expectations.
Actual operating data shows that the energy consumption per ton of water after the renovation is only 0.23 kWh/m³, with an energy saving rate of 81.6%, which is highly consistent with the 81.4% calculated by our company before the renovation design plan, fully verifying the reliability and accuracy of the technical route.
IV.Economic and Social Benefits: Small investment, quick returns, green and cost-effective
Based on current electricity prices, this project can save approximately 47,300 yuan in electricity costs annually. At the same time, the equipment operates more smoothly, generates less noise, reduces maintenance costs, and improves the water usage experience for residents.
Hunan Water is committed to the research and development and promotion of energy-saving technologies for secondary water supply and smart pump station solutions. For the 16 community pump stations renovated in this batch, our company developed optimal solutions for each project based on the specific zoning of each community, municipal water inlet pressure, and pipe diameter. These solutions included adding auxiliary pumps, implementing booster pumping, and merging water usage zones. All of these renovations achieved significant energy savings. The success of this batch of energy-saving renovation projects once again proves that through scientific diagnosis, precise selection, and system optimization, old pump stations can be completely "revitalized and upgraded," bringing tangible economic and environmental benefits to businesses and society.
